After wanting a guitar all her life my eleven year old finally got one for Christmas. She had talked about it from the time she held her first toy guitar at the age of two. She now had a guitar in her hands and was about to learn to play guitar. We talked to teachers about getting her lessons and they all said the same thing, no. Imagine not being able to help your child realize their dream.
No Because
o She is just too young, even at the age of four, six etc.
o She should learn piano first, she took it two years.
o Her reach is not big enough, we waited.
o She will out grow it. She never stopped asking for a guitar.
As it turned out my daughter was a good pianist, did very well on the recorder, violin and even the sax. But she never stopped asking for a guitar and on her 11th Christmas that is just what she got.
How To Make It Happen
o Visit the music store your local school deals with
o Have your child fitted for the right guitar
o Find a teacher through the store that your child likes
o Set up some lessons and provide your child the tools
My daughter loves her new Yamaha guitar and sounded like a natural from the first moment she held it. She has decided she wants to be self taught like the greats. We are supporting her dream as we feel it's a great goal. To be self motivated is a great asset for success in life.
The internet has provided our daughter with a great many resources to support her dream. We are amazed and pleased with the results and pride our daughter takes in her realized dream.

There is nothing more rewarding than watching a kid make their dreams come true with the help of Mom and Dad. We all want to give our kids everything and music is something that leads to great things.
Music helps kids do better in school
Studies show that kids who play a instrument do better in school than those who don't. You don't know what gifts your kids have until you let them give it a try.
All in all it is extremely rewarding to help and watch a child's dream come true. It is heart lifting and the good feeling sends chills down my spine each time I hear that little girl strum a beautiful song and is she a sight setting there in her chair looking down at shiny guitar as she plays with the biggest smile ever.
